Manavgat which is in calling Pamphilya antique zone was settled in about B.C. 7th century. But real civilization centre was Side. Nobody knows when was Manavgat’s establishment date but Manavgat began to be settlement centre before approximate 150 -200 years. Evliya Çelebi mention people who call “Yörük” live in Manavgat in his travel book. But this time Manavgat wasn’t settlement centre, Manavgat was this zone’s name. Yörük Beyleri came Manavgat with 1071 Malazgirt war from Horosan. They called “Senir Beyleri Halkı”. When Manavgat population multiplied people moved to south, coast and they made Manavgat’s today’s villages.
Manavgat was Anatolian Province’s sanjak until Cyprus Conquest 1571. After The Cyprus Conquest Manavgat was tied to Cyprus Province. Later on Manavgat was tied to Alanya.
With republic in 1923 Anatalya was province and Manavgat was tied Antalya. After in 1924 Manavgat was city from town.
Manavgat has got a lat of remaining opus from Greek, Rome, Byzantium, Seljuk and Ottoman period.
